Welcome.

Tell me your story. Don’t tell me what will happen to those who don’t follow your beliefs. Don’t take the easy way out and say ‘I believe x because [insert religious text here] says this’ or ‘my minister says that’. And please, don’t give me the old spiel about “just having faith” or “the world is just too complex” - we’ve all heard that before.

Tell me about you. Get personal. Dig deep. Ditch the “what they want to hear” answers. Strip down to your honest core. What do you believe? What have you learned about your spiritual beliefs?

SPEAK WITHOUT FEAR

A sage person once warned against discussing religion in polite company. As a result, many of us build a “Spirituality Defense Mechanism”; Americans hide vast spiritual secrets and we often fail to truly know our neighbors.

Project Exist is a dynamic exploration into the range, scope and depth of individual belief and spirituality. I want to gather and share as many diverse spiritual beliefs as possible. I seek honest personal accounts of individual spiritual beliefs; this is not a platform to promote/debase any religious agenda, organization, or ideology. Please note:

• This is an environment free from judgment and attacks.
• I am not looking to convert anyone. I am not looking to read about why x belief system is better than y belief system. I’m not interested in Protestantism or Islam; tell me about you.
• Preachy, judgmental, or insulting content will be excluded.
• This is not a discussion board. I strive to post as many complete and original submissions as possible, but I do reserve editorial authority over any and all content.

Individual Beliefs

Religious dialog often causes anxiety. Will I be judged based on my belief? Is this person going to start preaching? Sometimes we want to give the “correct” answer in front of our peers or people we respect because we fear that our beliefs may not be valid in the eyes of others. As a result, when asked about their individual beliefs, people often tailor responses based on the audience, sometimes omitting, exaggerating, or fabricating details.
